Jean Cocteau’s Chapelle Saint Blaise des Simples

Dedicated to Saint Blaise who healed humans and animals through his use of plants (the art of simpling). The chapel fell into disrepair until its renovation and decoration by Cocteau, painting the simples or medicinal plants (arnica, peppermint, foxglove, yarrow, sage) that have grown wild around the chapel for centuries. Cocteau is also buried here (his grave reads simply ‘je reste avec vous’).
