An inspiring book replete with images and descriptions of Orta’s many social projects, among them Collective Wear, Women’s Shelter Workshop, Refuge Wear and Modular Architecture.

Orta’s practice takes a reparative approach to a failing social fabric and centres those excluded from the security of stable housing and labour. A combination of architecture, art, theatre, fashion, poetry and activism, each of the bodies of work explored in the book has emerged in collaboration with an institution of social care, in constant dialogue with the communities they are designed to support. Orta and her collaborators explore the needs and desires of the body, as solitary figure and part of an intricate collective, and navigate the relational aesthetics of personal and public space through clothing and architecture.

Softcover, good condition. 2001.
